An app developed for recovering addicts, connecting them with home groups and providing support in their efforts to kick their addictions once and for all.

A collaborative effort of four millennial designers looking for the hidden problems facing our generation in finance, relationships, family life, social media, addiction and much more.

Understanding Millennials Through Contextual Research

Using tools in contextual research, and methods in human-centered design, we begun collecting data about millennials and other generations. The goal was to pin-point data-points that connected with each other. Finding unity in this information would lead to even greater discoveries, allowing for exploration of the issues that our generation faces.

Developing Statements to Understand Our User

All of this information was used to develop statements for Millennials, giving a voice to the problems facing young adults of the internet-age. Consistencies in these findings led to discoveries about how millennials use social media, which drugs they use, their opinions on marriage and many other topics.

Problem

Millennials and other age groups face addiction, but do not know how to seek help with overcoming their addictions.

Solution...

HomeGroup

Keeping you connected to your support groups and those who care.

Issues in Ideation

Our group began to look into different iPhone apps offered for those in the recovery process. While we liked some of what we saw, they were too Social Media based. Since one of our topics was Social Media addiction, we decided that our app needed to stray away from open, social based content, and focus on keeping you connected with your specific home group, hence the name “HomeGroup”. Here we have an early concept of the app, which was very much inspired by social media. After concepting ideas like this, we decided that this approach was not what we were looking for.

This was our early prototype. We had our basic layout planned out for the home page, and now we were looking for a color scheme that would be attractive, and also discrete so that users would not feel embarrassed or ashamed to use our app in public.

HomeGroup's Interface

Here we have the finalized layout for the HomeGroup app. The color schemes consist of soft blues and green, while more jutting colors are used to highlight important tasks and features of the app; buttons like your “Log Today” button, where you select whether or not you have used in the past 24 hours, and our “Emergency” button in the top right corner, for when you are having strong urges that you feel you can not control any longer. This button will connect you with a recovery hotline.

We understand that sobriety is a long, constantly changing process, so we would like to offer updated sources of reading material to our users. Our articles are coupled with eye catching illustrations to bring in readers, and our content is relatable to those who face all types of addiction.
